“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” -Anonymous

I am a mama to three little boys. My twins are 6 and my youngest is 4, though they really function as triplets. We spend as much time as we can outside, digging in the mud, building fake campfires with sticks, and playing tag. My most favorite pictures of our family are often unposed and candid, and really show the connection we have. Those are the same memories I strive to preserve for my clients, while still providing beautiful lightly-posed images for holiday cards and above the mantel. These moments with your littles are so fleeting, they grow and change in the blink of an eye. It is important to me that I preserve their tiny personalities for you, so that you can remember them just as they were at each step along your journey.

ABOUT ME

My style is a mix of lightly posed classic images and fun candid moments, that preserve emotion, connection, and even the tiniest details. I edit with lifelike colors, so that you will always be able to look back on your photographs and remember the experience just as it was. Kids are hilarious. Oftentimes they don't want to sit still or pose, and that's OK! My job is to provide you with frames that will help you remember this stage, even if it's one full of movement and giggles.

Where do you take family and maternity portraits?
We can choose from a wide variety of locations to find one that suits your vision. The following locations are either non-permitted, require free permits, or require permits that I have already obtained:
Clear Creek History Park, Golden, CO | Bel Mar Park, Lakewood, CO  |  All parks in the City of Denver  |  Silo Park, Greenwood Village, CO  |  Daniels Park, Lone Tree, CO  |  All parks in the City of Littleton | All parks in Jefferson County Open-space
*other locations may require an additional fee and/or permit

What should we wear?

I always recommend that clients wear some color. Choosing color palettes is one of my favorite hobbies, so if you need assistance, please let me know! Patterns can liven up a scene, so don't be afraid of them. I do warn clients against mixing similar patterns (like multiple plaids or florals), but mixing a subdued plaid with a bright floral, can be beautiful. Please avoid graphics, logos, and other pictures.

What time of day is best for portraiture?

Generally speaking, I only book portraits in the late afternoon/early evening. This time of day provides beautiful golden light, and minimizes harsh shadows. The best time to book a portrait session is during the 90 minutes before sunset. In the summer months, this can be pretty late in the day. For families with young children who go to bed early, I recommend booking sessions in the spring and fall, so that you can take advantage of beautiful light, and still maintain normal schedules for your little ones.

FAQ

Lacey & Tyler, 2017.

Katy is one of the best photographers in the Denver area in my opinion. She has photographed almost all of our major milestones as a family...She makes the sessions so personal and we have enjoyed her becoming a big part of our lives. Every time I get the pictures back ... I am brought to tears by how beautiful they are. She captures so many natural moments and turns them into great memories. Her customer service exceeds any expectation that I have ever had. Our family loves working with her and will continue to do so for many years to come.

My sweet clients have said...

Holly and Brian, 2017.

I have known Katy for many years and was thrilled when she agreed to take our family photos last fall! Somehow she was able to capture the essence of our family and the beauty of fall in the midst of our one-year old crying and sharing mostly grumpy looks. She made it comfortable, fun and easy. We are so thankful for her work and will cherish the first professional photos of our family of three. We are excited to see her again this fall to capture the change that has taken place in the last year. She is a true professional and friend!

Bridget, 2017.

Katy did family photos for us last fall and they are absolutely gorgeous! Capturing the delightful -- and random -- actions of a toddler on film is no easy task! Katy is also so easy to work with and helped our family to feel comfortable and at ease. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for beautiful pictures that truly capture the fleeting moments of life.

Carrie, 2017.

We loved working with Katy for our newborn and family session. She was so easy to work with and patient though newborn feedings, changing and a busy 4 year old. The images she captures are beautiful and will be memories that we'll treasure!

Amy, 2017.

Beautiful Photos! She is great with our kids, getting them to relax and letting their personalities shine through. Can't wait to see what she does with future photos.
